Topic: Challenges and prospects of rail traffic safety software testing

Speaker Introduction:

Xu Dengke ,qualified as a Function safety engineer (Rheinland TÜV), is working at China Academy of Railway Sciences, and served as a SQA manager and Safety assessor of railway signal products. With more than ten years of experience in the field of safety embedded system development and testing, as well as  over six years of experience in test management, product safety certification, and consulting & training.  He has led a test team to complete the test and safety assessment work of a number of key rail traffic signal products which involving millions of lines of software codes. At present, he mainly focus on the safety assessment, testing, and verification of railway safety critical systems, the application of system engineering and software engineering, the improvement of product development process ,and the quality assurance.

Brief of Topic:

With the rapid development of China's economic, China has been growing from the globalization participants to globalization promoter, advocate and leader. The high-speed railway, as a new national name card, has been pushing forward the "The Belt and Road" construction for China to open the door to a new country . The China's high-speed railway "going-out" strategy contains "the technology integration", "industrial support", "major equipment" and other aspects. From the long-term planning of China Railway, the scale of the railway network is still growing at a rate of 20% every 5 years. With the continuous improvement of the automation and intelligence of the railway system, the communication and signalling system plays a more and more important role in the field of modern railway transportation, of which the system reliability, stability and safety requirements are also getting higher and higher. The software plays an increasingly important role in all aspects of modern railway transportation, such as communication and signalling system, train control system, traffic control automation system, operation control system and so on. The software, as the soul of the computer system, is the key to construct the information system of the railway transportation. However, since the birth of the computer , the most inherently risky part of a computer system is always the software. At present, the development of information technology in the field of railway transportation has entered a new stage, the software function is becoming more and more complicated, the software scale is increasing dramatically, and the software quality has become one of the key factors affecting the reliability and safety of the whole system. With the deepening of the independent security assessment of China's domestic railway industry, the software testing process clearly requires the testers to be independent from the developers and the designers, and to select appropriate techniques and measures for testing according to different safety integrity levels, especially  after the 7.23 accident, the industry standardize and strengthen the software development management process ,resulting in a third-party railway assessment agency that is completely independent from the railway product project and   organization. The safety software testing should fundamentally service the railway industry, should be moving towards a more professional direction with safety concepts and characteristics of the industry, rather than in an aimless situation, only in this way can we guarantee the safety and quality of the rapidly developed high-speed railway. This issue is combined with the development of rail transportation industry and the requirements for security software testing , as well as the  work of safety software testing we have done in recent years, to share with you to discuss the future development and trend of the railway safety software testing.
